The coming to Canada of European settlers bought great changes to the Haida people who had lived on the Northwest coast for centuries. Some of the changes were relevant to both women and men, while some were more pertinent to women. The changes affected every aspect of the lives of the women their families, their culture, their work, their sexuality, and their position in society. It is often thought that all of this was an unmitigated disaster.
