Atget was a French photographer who lived from 1857 to 1927. Although relatively unknown in his lifetime, he is remembered by many as one of the greatest photographers who ever lived. Whether or not the modern viewer is adequately able to appreciate his style, it is incontestable that we owe to Atget the immense debt of having captured pre-war Paris for our modern view.
