Managing facilities is the way of coordinating the people, work of an organization and the physical work place. It is becoming increasingly meaningful in industries where short lead-times and short product life cycles are common attributes. To struggle for market shares or to respond to economic factors companies need to expand, contract, move, or rearrange their accommodations faster than in the past. The urgency to anticipate changes and plan for their impact on space is becoming critically consequential. The idea that the work of managers will be affected by information technology was discussed since 1958. Technology itself plays a key part either leading directly to social change or acting indirectly to facilitate organizational change.
