Adam Smith's and Frederick Engels' Views on Economic Production and its Significance to the Analysis of the Political Economy of Canada.

This paper will argue that Smith's and Engels' analysis of the economic processes of production, trade, and their long term consequences - although radically different in many respects - may provide useful insights to understanding the turbulent economic changes in Canada in the post-Free Trade (NAFTA) era. Moreover, it will be argued that these changes have profound implications for the continuing existence of "Canadian culture" or, indeed, for the survival of Canada itself. 5 pgs. 7 f/c. 2b.
