This paper briefly describes the need for electoral reform in Canada. Specifically, the paper focuses upon the shortcomings of the present 'first-past-the-post' electoral system and outlines the ways in which a proportional representation model is preferable. The paper concludes that until some form of proportional representation is adopted in Canada, the legitimacy of political institutions will suffer.
