No Child Left Behind and State Educational Standards
State educational standards, which had been becoming increasingly popular in a number of states over the past decade, became even more important two years ago with the signing into law of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. This paper examines the effectiveness of the state standards mandated by the No Child Left Behind law in terms of their serving as vehicles for educational reform.
