A Critical Review of Hans Schwarz The Significance of Evolutionary Thought For American Protestant Theology: Late Nineteenth-Century Resolutions and Twentieth-Century Problems
Within this paper, I begin by introducing my thesis and then provide a brief overview of the primary sources Schwarz employs within his article. I then drag Schwarz' hidden argument out from beneath the formal structure of his article, a structure that functions more as an exposition of 19th century critics who examined the relationship between evolution and Christianity than a sustained critical evaluation of a subject. I end by suggesting that Schwarz' implicit argument advocates a new, united front amongst academics hoping to combine Christianity with evolution, while also pointing out the enormous difficulties in doing so.
