History of Modern Europe.

This paper outlines some of the major influences that contributed to the rise of fascism in Germany, and to the role of Adolph Hitler in this shift from democracy to fascism. It also compares American and German developments during the same time frame, and points to a difference in economic policies as a significant influence. As well, the Treaty of Versailles impacted German economy significantly, and the general lack of leadership that existed with the Weimar republic effectively made the role of a Fuhrer viable. According to Kershaw, it is not specifically Hitler who created fascism, but rather a combination of social and political influences that created the possibility for a Fuhrer as the basis of German fascism. 4 pgs, bibliography lists 1 source.
