This paper compares the introductions of two sets of characters from the novel "Lady Audley's Secret" by Mary elizabeth Braddon, considering the pairings of Lord and Lady Audley, who was once a governess; and George Talboys and the pale young governess he meets on the ship the Argus, and the way the two couples reflect similar issues and remind th reader of one another.
