This paper shall discuss patterns in family dialogue, particularly those that have a negative impact on family communication patterns. Some characteristics of poor communication will be included such as unclear expression of feelings, inability to define needs and poor listening skills. Some illustrations will be made as to the relationships of the aforementioned and socio-cultural considerations such as gender and ethnic background.
